Brave New Lines Chess Chess game
Chess is, as the name indicates, a game of chess. The white pieces have been produced from jugs for frying oil, the dark pieces are made from old snuff boxes. Everything is collected, shaped and completed in Trondheim
The game board is made of MDF with contrasting colors in a checkerboard pattern. The pieces can be stored in an associated fabric bag.
The pieces have soft and tactile shapes and the board is just the right size so that it can be nicely displayed on the shelf or on the table, always ready for a new game of chess!
With this, Brave New Line wishes to show through design, research and collaboration that recycled plastic does not always have to look like recycled plastic, but rather be experienced as something exclusive.
The project has been carried out in collaboration with Norwegian Trash, Nordic Ocean Watch, Plasticpreneur and Plasteriet.
Brave New Lines is a young Norwegian design studio that follows its own path to create expressive and pragmatic everyday products with meaning. They find value in materials that others consider trash and that have untapped potential. They are eagerly exploring how they can produce without large investments in specialized tooling which in turn allows them to use small local workshops for their production.
Brave New Line is driven by a desire to make things simple and challenges established norms in the industry by meeting today's need for responsible production, efficient transport and transparent value chains. Their products should – in addition to using locally sourced and durable materials – always be possible to make small repairs on.
