Hiort and Østlyngen - Furniture design

Hiort og Østlyngen was one of the most important furniture companies in the 1930s and in the period after the war. They were forward-looking and innovative and for a period produced Finnish Alvor Aalto's laminated furniture under license. The collaboration with Alf Sture led to a number of models, in a special class is the 1036 armchair, which is still being produced.

Arne Hiort's iconic chair 103/80 can be found in Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece Fallingwater. Other designers who put Hiort and Østlyngen on the map were Arne Tjomsland and Svein Ivar Dysthe. Among the furnishing assignments can be mentioned Hotel Continental, Kongeskipet Norge and the Prime Minister's office.
