Silkeborg Uldspinderi Caracas Blanket Caramel/Grey
Caracas is a luxurious and warm blanket in 100% Baby Alpaca from Silkeborg Uldspinderi in Denmark. The alpaca fibers give the blanket an exclusive quality, it is indescribably soft and has a unique lightness combined with the fact that it warms well.
The graphic checker pattern gives references to the 1970s while still being a timeless design.
Baby alpaca
Wool is a unique natural material that insulates against both cold and heat, is naturally dirt-repellent, holds moisture without feeling wet and has antibacterial properties.
Silkeborg Uldspinderi has a particular fondness for the alpaca's unique properties. The alpaca has adapted to the Andes' harsh climate with a thick fur coat that insulates against both cold and heat. Where lamb's wool insulates because it holds air between individual fibers, the alpaca fibers insulate because each individual fiber is hollow and filled with air, thus maintaining the temperature. Technically, the alpaca does not have wool, but hair, which makes the fibers smooth, supple and flexible. Silkeborg Uldspinderi uses baby alpaca from Peru. Premium Baby Alpakka is the finest of the four different alpaca grades, where the quality is determined by how thin and fine the individual fiber is. The name Baby Alpakka has nothing to do with the animal's age.
Since wool and alpaca each have their own unique properties, Silkeborg has chosen to combine the materials in several of the blankets.
Silkeborg Uldspinderi has worked with wool for three generations. Dating back to the 1940s, when Ludvig Bruun Olsen started the spinning mill that later formed the basis for Silkeborg, Silkeborg has since 1987 produced high-quality wool products and good raw materials. Today, the vision is to unite their unique knowledge of wool and the material's many properties with a new approach to design found among Denmark's skilled artisans and textile designers.
