This is a hand-turned collection of stoneware cups, developed through three years of research in Røros, with a focus on local raw materials and the development of glazes with a distinctive "Life and Depth". The glazes are inspired by plants, rocks, minerals and characteristic natural and regional depictions from Røros' fantastic landscape.

Each cup and each glaze surface has visual variations from the artisanal production. The shape of the cups follows the movements of the hand on the wheel. All the cups are in the same shape family, but have slight differences in the turning grooves and curves and shades of color.

Wathne Studio collects the raw materials in Røros and processes them by hand in the workshop. Each collected portion of material varies in mineral content. This is reflected in the play of glazes, in small distinctive details and iron smelting. This creates variation, and each cup gets its own personality.

Copenhagen, 2015. A quick decision and a plane ticket led to a crucial meeting with Røros. Life's little coincidences, and a good portion of love, led to the first building blocks for Wathne Studio being laid here. Out came a life and work in the beautiful mining town in the mountains.

Wathne Studio has a workshop in HÅG's old furniture factory – an industrial building by the railway in Røros. The workshop contains a glaze laboratory, two pottery kilns, pottery wheels and clay, countless hand tools, shelves of design and professional books and a fantastic warehouse of materials.

Here, a daily artisan production of ceramic objects sprouts and grows, based on traditional craftsmanship and design. It is between design processes and old ceramic techniques that the exciting things happen. The two unite and create new ceramic surfaces and stories.
