Komsekula is today a cherished piece of jewelery and associated with Sami culture and tradition. Originally, the Sami and other people to the north got this through trade from the south. In the Middle Ages, it was used as a protective amulet against diseases. When it later came north, the Komsekule took on a new meaning. In the north, the underground were considered a great threat. Hanging a comet ball on a vulnerable newborn child became important so that the child would not be traded away. Hence the name Komsekule, which in Sami - siella - means protection.

Juhls Sølvsmie has been based in Kautokeino on Finnmarksvidda since 1959 and was the first workshop for silver jewelery in Finnmark. With a sincere desire to create something beautiful and an irrepressible joy in working, the Juhls family has expressed itself in several forms within crafts and art. Making jewelery has been the most important thing. Every piece of jewelery from Juhls Sølvsmie is made by hand in the workshop in Kautokeino.

Juhl's silversmith's historical jewelery tells of the time when the nomads on Finnmarksvidda carried their valuables with them in the form of jewellery. The jewelery was easy to handle, to the delight of the owner, while at the same time being an important trade and barter item. Since Bergen had a trading monopoly in northern Norway, you can find jewelery with roots there, as well as from trade with countries such as Russia, Finland and Sweden. The Historical series is a collection consisting of copies, delicate processing and variations based on these pieces of jewellery.

Store your jewelery in an airtight bag. Silver jewelery can be washed in mild soapy water to easily remove dirt or use a cleaning cloth and products suitable for cleaning silver jewellery.

Jewelery with stones should not be placed in a cleaning bath.

Never store your jewelery in the bathroom or in a damp environment.
